![]() ![]() I was having these silly debates about having the free Acrobat Reader on PCs 15 years ago. No it is not an admission of defeat on the part of Macs. It isn't a big deal to use LibreOffice, but my tidy mind would like Pages to handle it if possible. However, you said that there is a possibility that Pages would get the pagination right if it had the correct font, so can I ask again if it is possible to download MS Sans Serif? There are other Microsoft fonts in OSX, so why not this one? I have googled for it without success. This is the kind of problem which helps put people off Macs. I call it a defeat because my Macs can't handle such a document without third party software or requesting the sender to do something which all the Windows members don't need. I don't feel it is appropriate to tell them about their obligations! Neither the sender nor the members are particularly computer literate. You are right of course, in this day and age PDFs and Adobe Reader should be the norm.īut this is a voluntary organisation where a lot of work is done unpaid by a few people. Maybe I can see it on the senders part thoguh. You can open in Preview, PC user have to get Adobe reader but they usually already have it on their computers. You have to ask for a pdf version at least. ![]() The reader shouldn't be the one to adjust to the senders restricted view on which format or font to use. My strong view is that the Sender has the obligation to make sure everyone who he/she wants to read the bulletin, should use a format or supply with alternatives, to make sure it can be read. It depends on which features used when creating the document. IMac 21”5, i7, 2.8 GHz, 12 Gbytes, 1 Tbytes, mac OS X 10.6.8 and 10.7.It might or might not get the pagination wrong. MS Reference Sans Serif is no more a monospaced font. The fonts delivered with M…oSoft Office are : The list of fonts delivered by Lion is available at : The fact that it has been dropped from Windows 7 is a good reason for suggesting he uses a different font (eg Courier as Dale suggested), but from other things I have learned here, this is no guarantee that the pagination will be correct when Pages opens it. I am quite sure the person doing the bulletins has no idea why he is using MS Sans Serif. I realise I have had the benefit of inputs from world experts in Pages, for which I am really grateful, but there obviously isn't a simple apply-once solution (or even an apply-every-time solution). (In spite of saying that, I did try the other suggested fonts and page breaks but couldn't get Pages to display the pagination right). I started the thread thinking that it might be a simple matter of installing MS Sans Serif in OSX/Pages once, and thereafter I wouldn't have the minor annoyance of opening this bulletin in LibreOffice to get the pagination right when printing it out.Īnything involving editting the document each week in Pages, by substituting fonts or moving page breaks is a non starter option, compared to the simple LibreOffice method. I feel the "solutions" are potentially disproportionate to the problem! As far as I know, if MS Sans Serif is not available on your mac (which is normal) it will not behave better than Pages. ![]()
